True story.
I was (finally) finishing up painting the music room (ah, I mean conservatory) when my mind suddenly entertained an impulsive decorating thought.
(And yes, that’s pretty much how I get things done around here.)
I had the idea to paint the edge of my black front door so each time it was opened, a pop of color would introduce itself. So I stopped in the middle of my current project and immediately started on the door. I ended up narrowing down the designs but couldn’t decide between the bright pink I used on my Union Jack inspired sofa table and a simple black and white repeating pattern. So in great DIY fashion, I combined the two.
I love having a little peek of pattern when the door is opened. I’m still trying to decide though, if I should leave the pattern as is or change it up a bit. I want to think, “Wow, cool!” each time the door is opened and not, “Gee, why am I thinking about coral snakes?”
So what about you? Do you presume it to be a fun pop of pattern or a little too snake-ish?
(And lest you assume we are fancy conservatory people, our music room consists of a piano and a few other instruments stashed in our table-less but otherwise semi-stylish dining room.)

I think it is fun! I might stick with a solid color in my own house, but I like the idea of a little surprise popping out at you when the door is open!!

Yes, it definitely pops out every time the door is opened. I keep forgetting about the design so every time I see it, it’s a nice surprise.
What a brilliant idea! I know I haven’t seen ANYONE in the blog world or any magazine do this! I LIKE that it’s sort of coral snake-y now that you mention it, great colors and color combos are always found in nature. Maybe to change it up you would consider centering the word “WELCOME” along the edge of the door, with the letters being painted (or use vinyl cutouts like you can get using a Silhouette) in the white spaces? I like it, I think it’s very clever and fun.
