Every once in a while, the thrifting cosmos align and the perfect item will present itself.
Perhaps, from an unexpected source.
It may be a bit scruffy and unloved, but perfect nonetheless.
Now, such a thing happened to me a few months ago during our Arizona excursion. My mom and I had just returned from a successful day of thrifting and I happened to notice a small pile of things in her garage. I asked her about it and she explained that she planned to hold a garage sale soon and wanted to sell those items. She then walked over to the pile, picked up an old lamp and asked me if I wanted it. She had actually bought the lamp for next to nothing at a garage sale herself, because she wanted just the shade.
The lamp base was old and ugly, but I happily said that I would give it a new home. (Because you see, dear readers, the lamp was none other than a pineapple!)
And as you may recall, I had just recently lost my own dear pineapple lamp. (RIP) So, the introduction of this early 90′s reject into my possession was gladly welcome.
Once back home in Texas, I cleaned the lamp up well and taped the cord and socket with painter’s tape. I then primed and painted the base in white spray paint. After it was dry and looking spiffy, I set it up on a blind date with a spare black lamp shade I had on hand. (Just add “matchmaker” to my resume.) It was a perfect pairing!
The revamped lamp is now looking forward to its new home on my daughter’s nightstand.
Caught in the act! (Here’s a photo from the blooper reel.) Kitty, the ever curious cat, always has to inspect the photo styling. In this picture, kitty appears to be a fluffy sumo feline. (She actually is a bit on the small side while sporting a thick, furry coat.)
So what about you? Have any fortuitous garage sale gems found themselves into your possession? Or perhaps you have a snoopy, fur wearing family member inspecting all of your photo shooting decisions?
