Today I found a large, ugly cockroach in my kitchen.
Yes, it was quite hideous sitting right there on my kitchen floor. (Mocking me.)
I immediately grabbed my son’s shoe (which he had thoughtfully left in the middle of the livingroom floor) and gave that bug a good smack. The roach just sat there motionless so I smacked it hard two more times. It was at this point that I suddenly realized that the cockroach I had been savagely beating was nothing more than a realistic looking rubber toy.
That’s it. I had a mini freak-out over a silly, plastic bug.
Apparently, it had been strategically placed in my line of vision for maximum impact. The culprit? My 15-year-old son. (Love that rascal!)
I’ve been thinking about ceramic garden stools lately. How I would like to use one as a moveable side table next to my Craig’s list chair. The only issue was that they tended to be expensive. (Many more dollars than I wanted to spend.) So, I thought I would have to forget about having one.
A few weeks ago, I was scouting the local Marshall’s store and saw a light brown ceramic stool in the clearance section. Apparently, they are not as popular as they once were so the price was drastically slashed. The stool was in perfect condition, but I still felt the price was higher than I wanted to pay. (Just call me ”Miss Penny Pincher”)
A few weeks went by and I couldn’t get the ceramic table out of my mind. Sure, the color was drab, but I could change it. And I convinced myself that the price was a good deal. So I went back to Marshall’s after I returned home from the Haven Home Conference. (Exciting post to follow…)
My sister was shopping with me as I anxiously went to the clearance section, hoping that the ceramic stool was still there. And guess what? Not only was it still there, (waiting for me) but the price had been slashed in half again! So, of course I snatched it right up.
Once home, I had to decide which color to paint it and if I wanted to do some type of detail work in a contrasting color. But in the end, I gave into my current obsession of painting everything white.
(And, why yes, I have read the whole Spiderwick series. And while drinking out of that teacup.)
Well, I’m quite taken with my discounted ceramic garden stool. (Despite the fact that I’m not going to sit on it or place it in the garden, for that matter.)
So what about you? Have you scored an exciting thrifty find or attempted to annihilate a harmless plastic insect?
